Book Review – Chronicles of Kali – Prithvi Raj Banerjee

Chronicles of Kali – Prithvi Raj Banerjee

Genre: Historical Fiction/ Fantasy

Swathi’s Rating: 3.5/5

Hey guys,

Here’s a Indian Mythological Fantasy book I have enjoyed reading in the recent times. It’s loosely based on the Goddess Kali ma and her superpowers which are depicted in a fictitious backdrop in this enjoyable little tale. Read along the plot and let me know what you guys think!

Plot:

A fantasy/fiction novel that lures the reader into a parallel world of ferocious Subterranean Asurs plotting and planning to enslave the entire human race. Kali the protagonist, a regular teenager, soon learns of her supernatural abilities after which her life gets swept up in a whirlwind of cosmic adventure along with her companions; an ageless comrade, an unsuspecting mother and an enlightened master who help in fulfilling her destiny. The journey unfolds some thrilling mysteries across geographies; from the city of Angels – Los Angeles to our very own ancient Varanasi. An interesting read that cleverly clubs together history, adventure, and fantasy.

Swathi’s Rating:

Historical Fiction is one of my favorite genres – especially when it has the right pinch of Indian Mythology in it. Chronicles of Kali is a Fantasy Fiction that makes use of the Hindu Myth on Kali Maa to form an interesting tale of the Goddess in the Modern era.

An author struck in a writer’s block gets inspired by the story of the Indian Goddess Kali from her butler and decides to learn more about her. So she travels to Banaras, India to research about Kali and her antagonist – the Asuras!

Interesting fact: Goddess Kali and even the Asuras are depicted in Human forms. She is an ordinary girl who possesses supernatural powers and soon understands her ultimate destiny! Yes, people – this is our own SuperWoman story!!

I would recommend this book to lovers of Fantasy, and those who enjoy creativity and possess a huge imagination. I somehow liked the Kali here – she’s cute and lovely!
