Swathi’s Thoughts:

The story starts with a young and vibrant Detective Constable Kate Marshal working on the Deadly case of a serial killer with her boss Peter Convoy only to soon discover that he is indeed the cannibal serial killer himself! Kate is attacked in her own house before being rescued and left hospitalized for a long time while Peter is imprisoned in a high security psychiatric institute. However her sexual relationship with Peter only resulted in ending her career as a disgraced cop and an unexpected pregnancy!

Fast forward 16 years later, Kate is now a lecturer in criminology living a quaint life. She’s attending AA meetings, trying to recover from the trauma and alcoholism. Her son is now 15, living with her parents. They often Skype once a week where she gets to maintain a friendly relationship with her teenage son. All is well until one day she receives an email from a couple about the disappearance of their teenage daughter in 1990 which maybe the doings of Nine Elms Killer. At the same time, she’s also called by the M. E to a crime scene where a young girl is left dead, killed and posed in the same MO of the nine Elms killer. This could only mean one thing – a copy killer on loose!
As Kate begins to investigate the case along with her charismatic assistant Tristan, the copy killer gets proactive reciprocating the Nine Elms killer’s works.

I love starting a brand new thriller series and I’m officially a fan of this one! Bryndza takes his time to lay the foundation to develop his characters for the series and the plot moves in a steady pace afterwards. I love it when an author gives us a glimpse of several things at once. For instance, we get to see Kate’s investigation of the past, while the bodies accumulate in the present. We also get to know more about the killer’s sick mind and the gruesome details of the crime scene. Brilliantly structured and meticulously detailed, this book is a must-read for all the fans of Crime Thriller genre.
